arts&architecture gallery announces:

Granite-Woman-Karin-Rosenth

the nude in nature: photographs by the k r group

August 4, 2011 - Ottawa, Ontario – arts&architecture is pleased to feature the exhibit the nude in nature: photographs by the k r group, a collection of photographs by a group of photographers from across North America and their instructor, Karin Rosenthal. Admission is free.

This group of photographers - Judith Monteferrante, Tony Schwartz, Trish Wright, Steve Schmidt, Sukumar and Len Ward - have for many years have shared two things: a passion for fine art photography and a respect for their common mentor, Karin Rosenthal.  Americans and Canadians, they were drawn by Rosenthal's artistry in photographing the human form in natural settings, sensing that there was much to be learned from this accomplished photographic artist and teacher. The group generally gathers once a year to photograph together in a workshop format, sharing triumphs and failures but always moving toward their individual goals while celebrating the synergy between the body, the soul, and the natural world.  Cape Cod, Maine, Prince Edward Island and now Wakefield, Quebec, have presented the living context for their art.

The nude in nature includes 28 fine art images, both colour and black and white. The pieces, archival ink jet prints on fine art paper, range in size from 8”x10” to 16”x24” and are available for sale through the gallery with pricing available for framed or unframed prints. In celebration of their individual and collective work, and to accompany the group's Wakefield workshop, arts&architecture invites the public to an opening reception on August 18, from 7 - 10 PM which will provide a chance to meet Karin Rosenthal and her fellow artists and to discuss their work.

About Karin Rosenthal
Karin has photographed the nude in nature since 1975 and for the last 15 years has led students at all skill levels to discover the genre in an original and personal way. Her nudes have been published internationally and are represented in numerous museum collections. Rosenthal’s photograph in the exhibition
First Doubt: Optical Confusion in Modern Photography at the Yale University Art Gallery was selected to represent the show of 100 images by 20th century photographers and was featured in the New York Times Review. She has received several grants and prizes including Grand Prize in the 2010 Renaissance International Photography Competition and First Prize in Nudes for the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.
