Over the past few years architect Len Ward has directed his energy toward an equal passion - fine art photography. With an early interest in urban planning and habitation, his first subjects were streetscapes and neighbourhoods.  He soon moved on to studies of natural landscapes and finally to the most fascinating subject of all - people.  Most recently, Len has used his many years of photographic experience to benefit his exploration of the human figure in the natural landscape.  Inspired by the work of both past and contemporary masters, he endeavors to explore the almost primal relationship between the human body and the elements of nature.

In spite of the recent growth in popularity of digital photography, Len continues to have a deep appreciation for traditional photographic processes.  Maintaining complete control over all aspects of his image-making, he works primarily with medium and large format film-based cameras and processes and prints his own work.  While many of his fine art projects are undertaken outdoors in natural light, Len also operates a photo studio within his arts & architecture venue, where he does both figurative work and portraiture.  Located on Bank Street in Old Ottawa South, arts & architecture also incorporates Len’s architectural practice and art gallery.

Len’s fine art images are hand printed on traditional fibre paper and toned.  They are moderately priced and available matted and signed in 8 x 10, 11 x 14 and 16 x 20 sizes through the gallery at arts & architecture.  Framing is available.

Len also offers portrait sittings in the studio or at other locations and is available for commissioned work on selected projects. Digital capture and reproduction can also be provided. Len may be contacted through the reception desk at arts & architecture, by calling 613-737-7300, or by e-mail at info@artsandarchitecture.ca
